Faculty Mentor Program

The Faculty Mentor Program (FMP) was offered to all faculty ranks, including tenure-line, research, clinical, and instructors. FMP included one-on-one mentoring, mentor training, networking events, and structured skills-training presentations related to enhancing faculty productivity. Overall, the FMP offered deep learning and mentoring opportunities to more than 550 unique participants.

The Faculty Mentoring Program (FMP) cycle began in Fall and concludes in the Summer of each school year. There were four signature events during each FMP cycle:

  • Fall: Orientation and Program Kick-off
  • Fall: Match Networking Lunch
  • Spring: Match Networking Lunch
  • Summer: End of Year Planning Workshop

Mentors and mentees were matched based on research interests and disciplinary demands, and come from different departments in the respective colleges. Typically, pairs were matched at the beginning of each academic year, and a variety of workshops and events were held to help both parties achieve a successful relationship.

The Faculty Mentor Program was established to address some of the needs and concerns that faculty expressed in the 2010 Faculty Climate survey. Specifically, College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE) faculty reported wanting more consistent opportunities for career advice and mentorship. In 2012-2013, CASE announced that for its college-wide, formal faculty mentor program would be joined by the College of Engineering & Computing (CEC). In 2013-14, it was joined by the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work.

The Faculty Mentor Program serveed all faculty in all colleges, with 186 faculty participating during the 2019-2020 year.
