Welcome to the 5th year of the FIU Faculty Mentoring Program. This academic year we continued our partnerships with the Colleges of Arts, Sciences & Education, Engineering & Computing, and the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work, as well as the Office of Research and Economic Development, in order to bring you an expanded assortment of speakers and workshops.
Workshops were held on the following topics, among others: NIH for Dummies Workshop, NEH Humanities Workshop, Tips on Tenure & Promotion, Evaluation, Summer Planning, Leadership and a host of invited speakers from the Office of Research and Economic Development.

Substance use disorders remain a significant impact on public health, affecting nearly one in three people at some point during their lifetime, and costing society more than $600 billion annually. Dr. Elliot Stein, Chief of the Neuroimaging Research Branch at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), will present some of the recnet work from his lab exploring the potential caueses of and consequences to chronic drug addiction.

The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies is sponsoring this event as part of its International Women, Gender and Violence Initiative. The goal is to identify FIU faculty doing research in this area to enhance collaborations and to bring more public attention to FIU’s faculty strength in this area.
