STRIDE/Diversity Advocates

The Office to Advance Women, Equity & Diversity (AWED) offers several types of STRIDE workshops (Strategies and Tactics for Recruitment to Increase Diversity and Excellence) concerning best practices both for faculty hiring and for tenure and promotion decisions. All workshops are facilitated by faculty members. 

The STRIDE workshops offered by the AWED STRIDE Committee include the following:

STRIDE HIRING/FACULTY RECRUITMENT WORKSHOP. Designed to provide background information and concrete advice about practices that make searches more successful (in producing diverse candidate pools and hiring candidates). Attendance is required once every three years for faculty serving on search committees. A list of attendees that are STRIDE-certified is available here. Search committee members do NOT have to come as a group; feel free to sign up for a workshop at a time convenient to you. If you remember coming previously and are not on the list, that means it is time for you to renew your attendance.

STRIDE DIVERSITY ADVOCATE WORKSHOP. One member of each search committee will be recommended by AWED to attend this advanced recruitment workshop. DAs must first have attended the STRIDE Hiring workshop. This new requirement is being phased in over the next three years beginning with tenure-line faculty searches. DAs are expected to attend one post-search meeting.

STRIDE TENURE AND PROMOTION WORKSHOP. This new requirement will begin in Fall 2020; it is now part of the Tenure and Promotion guidelines. All College Tenure and Promotion Committee members, Department Chairs, and Deans must attend the T&P workshop in 2020-2021 and once every five years. New committee members, department chairs and deans should attend in their first year of appointment.

STRIDE HIRING LEADERS WORKSHOP (Dean and above). This is required for all upper-administration search committee members.
